Un pequeño detalle: "Mish" en mi lengua materna, el Ayuk (mixe), es como decir "el Dary". Es una forma cariñosa de referirme como persona, como cuando en español dices "el Juan" o "la María". Así que cuando ves "Mish Dary" sabes que soy yo — el Dary de aquí, de Oaxaca.
A small detail: "Mish" in my mother tongue, Ayuk (Mixe), is like saying "the Dary" — a way of identifying me as a person, similar to how in Spanish you'd say "el Juan" or "la María." So when you see "Mish Dary," you know it's me — the Dary from here, from Oaxaca.
Nací en Santo Domingo Tehuantepec (mi mamá es del Istmo), pero desde bebé crecí en San Juan Juquila Mixes, en la Sierra Mixe, donde aprendí el ayuuk. El camino que seguí no fue el más directo: internados religiosos, seminarios, casi sacerdote — y al final, ingeniería mecatrónica. Ingeniero de profesión, pero apasionado del cine, los videos y la fiesta.
I was born in Santo Domingo Tehuantepec (my mother is from the Isthmus), but I grew up in San Juan Juquila Mixes, in the Sierra Mixe, where I learned Ayuuk. My path wasn't the most direct: religious boarding schools, seminaries, almost a priest — and in the end, mechatronics engineering. Engineer by trade, but passionate about film, video, and a good party.
LudiTalk: El intercambio que no podía morir / The Language Exchange I Couldn't Let Die
Hace un tiempo empecé a organizar los intercambios de idiomas LudiTalk los miércoles y jueves en Oaxaca. Este proyecto no fue mío originalmente; lo iniciaron unos amigos después de la pandemia. En ese entonces yo era solo otro asistente — un Ingeniero en Mecatrónica que quería mejorar su inglés para el trabajo. Cuando esos amigos tuvieron que irse, no pude dejar que el proyecto muriera.
A while back, I started organizing the LudiTalk language exchanges on Wednesdays and Thursdays. This project wasn't mine originally — it was started by some friends post-pandemic. At the time I was just another attendee: a Mechatronics Engineer trying to improve my English for work. When those friends had to leave, I couldn't let the project die.
Decidí seguir porque entendí que era un espacio necesario — no solo para practicar idiomas, sino para conectar y pasarla bien. No soy maestro; solo facilito un espacio para conectar personas. Y creo que eso tiene mucho valor.
I decided to keep it going because I understood it was a necessary space — not just for language practice, but for connecting and having a good time. I'm not a teacher; I just facilitate a space to connect. And I think that's pretty cool.
La crisis del ingeniero y las puertas que no abrían / The Engineer Crisis and the Doors That Wouldn't Open
Para ser honesto, por mucho tiempo me sentí desmotivado. Pasé mucho tiempo tocando puertas para iniciar algo significativo para Oaxaca — y muchas veces esas puertas no abrían.
To be honest, for a long time I felt unmotivated. I spent a lot of time knocking on doors to start something meaningful for Oaxaca — and many times, those doors just wouldn't open.
Así que decidí simplemente patearlas y hacerlo yo mismo. Oaxaca es mucho más que una postal bonita. Los que vivimos aquí merecemos herramientas y acceso a todo lo que nuestro estado ofrece.
So I decided to just kick them down and do it myself. Oaxaca is so much more than a beautiful postcard. Those of us who live here deserve tools and access to everything our state has to offer.
Cómo nació Qué Onda Oaxaca / How Qué Onda Oaxaca Was Born
Así nació Qué Onda Oaxaca — mi granito de arena. La idea es construir un puente entre quienes crean arte y cultura y quienes buscan qué hacer. Estoy construyendo este sitio para que sea verdaderamente útil para los locales, incluyendo las festividades de mi pueblo en la Sierra Norte.
That's how Qué Onda Oaxaca was born — my grain of sand. The idea is to build a bridge between those who create art and culture and those looking for something to do. I'm building this site to be genuinely useful for locals, even including the festivities of my village in the Sierra Norte.

Tengo un reto personal: mi lengua materna es el Ayuk (mixe). Siempre quise organizar un intercambio de lenguas indígenas, pero la inseguridad de solo hablarlo — sin poder escribirlo — me frenaba.
I have a personal challenge: my mother tongue is Ayuk (Mixe). I always wanted to organize an indigenous language exchange, but the insecurity of only speaking it without being able to write it held me back.

Probablemente esta sea la última vez que hablo tanto de mí por aquí. Les prometo que solo lo hice por fines de SEO (es broma... a medias 😂) y para que tengan una mejor perspectiva de dónde viene y hacia dónde va este esfuerzo.
A partir de ahora, lo que haré pronto será publicar eventos chidos, visibilizar a artistas locales y compartir espacios que valen la pena. Porque ese es el corazón del proyecto.
Si te soy súper honesto, el mayor reto que enfrento hoy no es escribir código, sino la adopción. Aterrizar en lenguaje no técnico todos los beneficios que esta plataforma le ofrece a la comunidad no es tarea fácil. Pero sigo aquí porque tengo una convicción muy clara: los oaxaqueños merecemos tener todas las facilidades para acceder a cualquier tipo de disfrute.
Definitivamente no creo que la cultura deba tener formatos ni filtros elitistas, porque en Oaxaca, ya desde el simple acto de habitar el espacio, se hace cultura.
Probably this will be the last time I talk this much about myself here. I promise I only did it for SEO purposes (just kidding... mostly 😂).
From now on, I'll be publishing cool events, highlighting local artists, and sharing spaces worth knowing. Because that's the real heart of the project.
To be completely honest, the biggest challenge I face today isn't coding, but adoption. I keep going because I have a clear conviction: Oaxacans deserve easy access to all kinds of enjoyment.
I firmly believe that culture shouldn't have any elitist filters, because in Oaxaca, simply inhabiting the space is already making culture.

Después de lidiar con contenido inapropiado en el sitio, decidí que la mejor respuesta no era solo bloquearlo — sino hacer la plataforma mejor para todos. Me quedé una noche programando una solución basada en proyectos de visión computacional que hice en la universidad.
After dealing with inappropriate content on the site, I decided the best response wasn't just to block it — but to make the platform better for everyone. I spent the night coding a solution based on computer vision projects I worked on back in university.
