Stuck on a "loading screen"? Airplane Mode: The piece that questions our connection arrives in Oaxaca
Reading guide: English translation is provided below each paragraph.
Have you ever felt like your life is suspended in a digital glitch? That feeling of being hyperconnected to the world, yet deeply disconnected from yourself. That's the premise of "Modo Avión" (Airplane Mode), a contemporary theater piece that, after a phenomenal reception in Mexico City, lands in Oaxaca to remind us what it means to be human in the age of the algorithm.
The Art of Inhabiting the "Non-Place"
Produced by Terrícola Estudio and masterfully performed by Oscar Valenzuela, this monologue is much more than a play; it's a scenic investigation that uses the body as the main tool of communication. Oscar, a creator who navigates seamlessly between acting and independent production, presents us with a character inhabiting a digital void: that infinite moment of waiting where time seems to have stood still.
The staging is intimate and powerful. Through an immersive sound atmosphere and a physical proposal that explores anxiety and the fragmentation of identity, the play becomes a mirror of our own hyper-stimulated daily lives.

Register ↗A Necessary Reflection: The Privilege of Pause
At Qué Onda Oaxaca, we believe that independent art is the fabric that keeps our city's culture alive. "Modo Avión" is not just an invitation to turn off your phone for an hour; it's a reminder that behind every notification, there is a body that feels and needs to connect with others.
Watching Oscar Valenzuela on stage means witnessing an acidic comedy about our modern loneliness that invites us to empathize. In a world that demands us to be "available" 24/7, allowing oneself to go into "airplane mode" is, perhaps, the most revolutionary act we can do today.
